What are pavers?

Are pavers right for my home?

What are the most common shapes of pavers for me to consider?
Pavers are a varied landscape element in terms of shape, but some of the most common ones are standard square and rectangular pavers. We offer several paver shapes in which you can use to form your own patterns including, circle kits, octagon kits, and diamond kits.
What are some typical dimensions for pavers?
For square and rectangular pavers we offer, typical sizes include 8” x 8”, 12”x 12”, and 24” x 24”. These are nominal thickness due to the random surface textures of each paver. Contact us about the range of thickness, which applies to the pavers that you are most interested in.

What are the advantages of brick pavers?
The advantages of brick paving over concrete and asphalt go beyond colors, looks, and shapes. Brick pavers are produced on specially designed machinery which ensures an exact quality process that produces a higher strength and durability than concrete or asphalt. They have a minimum compression strength of 8000 psi and are the ideal product for freeze/thaw environments. With proper installation, this product provides a hard wearing and flexible surface that allow the joints between pavers on any walkway, driveway, or patio to move without cracking. Will the pavers mildew?
Mildew grows on surfaces that are kept cool and moist over an extended period of time. Pavers are more resistant to mildew as the surface retains water less than that of other pavement surfaces. Use a waterproof sealer and power washer to keep mildew from showing up. On the other hand, some customers find this to add a rustic appeal to their pavers and actually encourage its growth.
How do I control weeds and grass from coming up in my paver patio or walkway?
For the most part, if the pavers are installed properly and a compactor was used on the pavers to lock them into place, you have cut off much of the growing environment. There will still be times when seeds can blow in and start growing in the sand between the cracks. When this happens, you can usually pull them out very easily or spray them with a weed killer and remove them. Sealing the pavers also helps prevent vegetation growth.
Can I replace a paver if broken or stained?
Yes, you can be rest assured of the replacement of your pavers by keeping extras from when the job was completed. When replacing a paver, scrape out the sand in the joints that surround the paver that needs to be removed. Use two screwdrivers to wiggle the paver out. Others can be removed by hand. Insert the new paver, replace the joint sand, and compact the paver into place with a rubber mallet.
Do pavers need to be sealed?
It is by no means required that you seal your pavers, however we do recommend it. Think of sealing your pavers like protecting an investment. Sealing your pavers will help prevent against fading and staining and help your pavers truly last a lifetime.

Yes, however special precautions concerning drainage and stability should be performed prior to installation.
Are there different prices between different types of pavers?
Yes, the prices vary depending on the type of paver.
What thickness of pavers do residential driveways require?
Residential driveway pavers require a minimum 2 3/8" thickness. As long as the crushed stone base is a minimum of 8"- 10" thick and compacted correctly over a stable sub-base. For heavy vehicles it is recommended to a use a paver that is 3 1/8" thick and increase the depth of the stone base.
Paver Maintenance FAQ's
That new paver patio or walkway looks great now, but over time regular wear, dirt and weeds take their toll on the concrete blocks. Regular maintenance keeps your outdoor paver area looking nice while preventing damage, like cracking and shifting of the individual pavers. Cleaning, sealing and weed control are the main components of a paver maintenance plan. The upfront work of maintaining the pavers saves you the hard work of replacing the bricks down the road.
Should I Seal My Pavers?
Sealing your pavers is not necessary, it is however recommended! The reasons for this are that a sealed paver surface is much easier to clean, or may even prevent staining. Also, sealing will enhance and maintain your brightly colored pavers. Lastly, sealing your pavers will prevent the growth of weeds in between your joints.
What Happens If My Pavers Are Chipped or Damaged?
The great thing about pavers is that they are easy to repair! They can be pried out with the use of two screwdrivers, and replaced with new ones. It’s that easy! This makes pavers a very cost efficient product, for there are no real high costs involved in repairing.
Will Weeds Grow Between the Joints of My Pavers?
By ensuring that your joints are completely filled up with sand, this will help prevent the amount of weed seeds that fall between the joints. You can also seal your pavers, which will coat the joints, making it impossible for weeds to grow.
